Position Overview At present, Avodah secures more than $2 million in grants from more than 50 foundations annually, which represents more than 55% of the organization’s budget. Avodah seeks a Part-time (i.e., 20 hours/week) Grant Writer to work closely with the Foundations Manager to write, edit and/or compile foundation submissions. They will also conduct research on prospective funders. Candidates must be available for occasional local and out-of-state travel to Avodah staff meetings, retreats, and events on nights and weekends. Key Responsibilities Develop and write foundation submissions, including letters of intent, funding requests, and reports, persuasively communicating Avodah’s mission, programs and impact; Collaborate with appropriate staff members to craft budgets and other financial documents for submission to foundations; Edit foundation materials written by the Foundations Manager; Communicate by email, phone and letter with prospective and current funders; Conduct prospect research on prospective foundation funders; Occasionally, join the Foundations Manager and/or other Avodah staff members for meetings with foundation representatives; and Other duties as assigned. Skills & Qualifications Three to five years of work experience (including internships) required; Experience writing foundation proposals and reports, and prospect research preferred ; Working knowledge of Salesforce preferred Experience working in a nonprofit setting preferred ; Outstanding persuasive writing, editing, and proofreading skills; Ability to handle a large volume of work, prioritize and multitask under tight deadlines with unflagging attention to detail; Ability to work both independently and as part of a team; Working knowledge of Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Microsoft Excel; Commitment to the idea that the Jewish community has an essential role to play in promoting justice in the United States; and Flexibility to adjust to evolving work demands; and Good sense of humor.
