Media Director
Position Objectives: Media relationships are critical to PETA's methodology, and the media relations team is a crucial part of PETA's U.S. and international media campaign strategy. The media relations team develops and maintains relationships with the media, helps develop stories about PETA’s serious work, and sets the approach for the presentation of those stories. The media director will be responsible for leading that team and ensuring its success for PETA.   Primary Responsibilities and Duties: • Research and identify appropriate local and international media outlets for placing coverage of PETA's critical investigative, scientific, legal, and corporate animal-protection campaigns. • Pitch PETA’s serious efforts to reporters, editors and producers. • Oversee the cultivation and maintenance of professional relationships with these selected media outlets • Train the media relations team in PETA's unique writing style and publication approach and lead the team in developing powerful, newsworthy stories on the domestic and international levels • Set the strategy for presenting stories to selected U.S.-based European, U.S., and international media outlets to secure coverage • In time, develop and oversee a media specialist team in presenting PETA's critical campaigns to the media. Conduct interviews and hire media specialists for the team, manage and be responsible for the performance of staff, conduct performance evaluations, and assign and supervise work activities   Qualifications: • Degree in a related field • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of the media industry • Proven ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional manner • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines • Effective public speaking abilities • Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle • Willingness and ability to travel • Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. driver’s license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record • Support for PETA’s philosophy and the ability to advocate PETA’s positions on issues professionally • Commitment to the objectives of the organization

Laboratory Investigations Counsel and FOIA Manager

Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs
Position Objectives: To direct the operations and business affairs of the Legal and Corporate Affairs Department, including the supervision of staff   Primary Responsibilities and Duties: • Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Legal and Corporate Affairs Department • Supervise attorneys and staff members assigned to matters under the areas of responsibility, including assigning, prioritizing, and reviewing projects • Serve as the point of contact on corporate law matters when the general counsel is unavailable • Provide legal advice and assistance on a wide range of issues that arise during the conduct of the organization's and its affiliates' charitable programs • Represent and present on behalf of the Legal and Corporate Affairs Department to donors, public bodies, and the media • Maintain and oversee the organization's and PETA's insurance and risk management programs • Supervise maintenance of the organization’s trademark registrations in the U.S. and international jurisdictions • Coordinate and ensure compliance with corporate governance requirements for the organization and all domestic and international PETA-named affiliates • Conduct legal research and provide advice on corporate issues pertaining to day-to-day operation including contracts, intellectual property, real estate, insurance, employment law, and tax-exempt organizations • Research, interpret, and apply state and federal statutes and regulations, and applicable case law • Communicate with prosecutors, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations on a variety of legal issues • Assist PETA caseworkers, researchers, and campaigners with a wide array of legal issues that arise in their cases • Draft correspondence, contracts, and applications • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor   Qualifications: • J.D. and a minimum of six years of relevant legal experience, including with tax-exempt organizations • Member in good standing of a state bar • Previous supervisory experience • Proven effective leadership skills • Proven excellent organizational, legal research, and writing skills • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks within strict time constraints • Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate the organization’s and PETA's positions on issues • Commitment to the objectives of the organization

Media Placement Coordinator

Assistant Press Coordinator
Position Objective: To generate media coverage of PETA's campaigns   Primary Responsibilities and Duties: • Prepare and service news releases for PETA campaigns • Independently pitch PETA campaigns and events to the media • Prepare and manage news releases for PETA's foreign affiliates • Prepare and send mailings to the media on specific issues and campaigns • Monitor severe weather and natural disasters nationwide (e.g., fires, floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes) and prepare and service news releases regarding the safeguarding of companion animals during such events • Develop target lists for issue and campaign coverage • Develop new pitch ideas and ways to revamp news releases and pitches in order to increase media coverage of PETA campaigns • Pitch campaigner profiles and interviews to TV and radio talk shows, features editors, and weekly papers • Keep informed about local and national news stories and track those that are relevant to PETA's campaigns • Assist campaigners with various duties relating to media coverage • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor   Qualifications: • Degree in a related field or equivalent experience • Professional writing experience, including newspaper or magazine writing experience • Knowledge of public relations and the media industry, a plus • Demonstrated thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and campaigns • Proven ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional manner • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously • Proven ability to take initiative and follow through • Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments and work independently • Proven exceptional written and verbal communication skills • Proven excellent organizational skills • Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines • Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle • Support for PETA's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues • Commitment to the objectives of the organization
