The Marketing Manager drives Music Forward’s mission and story through refinement and implementation of the Communication Strategy. In collaboration with the Director of Marketing & Partnerships, the Manager designs strategies to reach target audiences and stakeholders, and ensures creation of content and messaging into a variety of formats for broad reach and deep impact. The Manager is responsible for managing the Digital Marketing Coordinator, contractor/vendor relationships, interns, and volunteers to increase brand awareness and promote our initiatives.
Candidates for this opportunity should be a results-driven, analytically minded, reliable project manager, as well as flexible and committed team player. The Manager is a resourceful and creative thinker, possessing a full range of marketing skills including copywriting, social media management, graphic design, video editing, media and music industry relations. A passion for the communities we serve, music, and a commitment to the nonprofit sector are strongly preferred. This position reports to the Director of Marketing & Partnerships and works closely with Program and Development staff. Position is based in Los Angeles.
Design and execute communications strategies: build systems, including timelines, budgets, trackers, asset management, and other tools to efficiently and effectively manage communications to key audiences. Analyze data and provide feedback for improvements in strategy, content, and implementation. Develop innovative strategies to leverage program alumni, donors, volunteers, interns, online community, and others to assist in capturing and sharing our story.
Develop content and messaging into variety of formats : develop campaigns via written and visual content. Content is utilized in a variety of formats, including, but not limited to press releases, media distribution, video, photos, posters, flyers, newsletters, presentations, website, social media, YouTube, Google ads, and swag, to aid with outreach and implementation. Identify and direct photographers and videographers to capture our story in a compelling manner; strategically organize and direct packaging of content for editing and distribution in a timely manner through our communication channels. Ensure all material is on brand and on message.
Digital strategy : drive digital campaigns and audience stratification, expansion, and engagement strategies that build awareness of Music Forward and integrate program and development goals. Develop and adapt strategies based on best practice, trends, and performance analysis of digital marketing initiatives across platforms. Oversee organizational email marketing campaigns, content development, delivery execution, and performance. Forge and nurture relationships with digital team partners, including Live Nation and House of Blues, to create, collaborate and coordinate mutual digital planning strategies and execution, and report on related results.
Social media: develop data-driven social media strategy, including both organic and paid social approaches. Manage brand tone and oversee copywriting and design of digital content. Manage Music Forward’s social calendar and ensure timely, relevant updates across all platforms. Manage audience insights, social listening, and community management to optimize communication and engagement with brand audiences.
Website: oversee website maintenance and updates with current organization, campaign, and program information, including visuals. Lead the Marketing Coordinator and intern team to refresh and maintain relevant visuals, tagging, and other web content (i.e.-video, photos, forms, blog content). Ensure website is SEO/SEM optimized and provide website performance analytics on a regular basis. Provide direction to a web developer on larger project updates, such as new website functionality and design.
Develop and manage a supporting team of a Marketing Coordinator, contractors, consultants, and interns, and provide strong creative vision and direction, timelines, and deadlines to effectively complete projects. Develop processes for asset collection from Music Forward staff, program alumni, donors, volunteers, interns, online community, and others to capture and share our story.
Be an active member of our team : take initiative by brainstorming, researching, proposing, and testing strategic changes within current communications, including evaluation of current and future value of outside vendors, partners, and interns; participate in required staff calls and meetings; provide general and administrative support for organization outreach and special events; additional duties as assigned.
What you bring
5+ years experience in marketing, PR and/or communications
Music industry knowledge and experience, including event presence/activation
Experience with multimedia content creation and distribution
Exceptional time management and organizational skills with high level of comfort working in a diverse, fast-paced environment
Proven understanding of how to develop, execute, and optimize digital campaigns using social, SEO/SEM, and email as well as other digital options
Advanced social media proficiency including social media management platforms and paid strategy including, Facebook Ads Manager, Google AdWords, and measurement approaches
Demonstrated success growing brand awareness and audience acquisition
Proven capacity to lead various and simultaneous projects and teams. You understand and relish the opportunity to work with a cross-functional team and manage fluctuating priorities
An evident pride in work with a demonstrated commitment to high professional standards
Must be able to work early mornings, evenings and weekends to finish projects and support programs and special events as needed
A personal car or regular access to reliable personal transportation. Mileage is reimbursed per federal rates for work related travel. A valid driver's license and proof of car insurance required for business driving.
College degree or equivalent experience
Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with acute attention to detail
Expertise creating, managing, and editing content for online properties. Music Forward’s current platforms are Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Website is built on WordPress.
Fluency in Graphic/Video/Audio Software: Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator), Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Premiere, or equivalents
Knowledge of WordPress, SEO, SEM, and corresponding website management
Experience with CRM software like Salesforce and associated reporting preferred
