Al Otro Lado is a binational legal services organization serving refugees and deportees in Tijuana, Mexico and Los Angeles, California. The Human Resources Coordinator will be a full-time, salaried position with full benefits based out of Al Otro Lado’s San Diego office, with travel to different program sites (Maywood, Los Angeles, Tijuana) quarterly. Some remote work is acceptable for candidates based in Southern California only. Job responsibilities: Responsible for all new employee on boarding and preparing new-hire packets Responsible for maintaining Employee Handbook and ensuring all employees have signed acknowledgement of receipt for their files. Keep updated with all new CA laws as applicable Acts as a Benefits Administrator for employee health, dental, disability and 401k plans and coordinates Open Enrollment period Maintains personnel files as required by law Processes all Workers Compensation, unemployment and disability claims and completes other required government reporting as necessary Maintains employee absentee records and discusses any concerns with management Resolves employee problems/complaints in a professional and timely manner and notifies appropriate management Identifies legal requirement and government reporting regulations affecting human resource function and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance Develops and maintains effective organization through the selection, training, compensation, motivation, termination and review of all personnel Develops and maintains a program for professional employee relations at all levels of the organization Ensures OSHA compliance Additional duties may be assigned Required Qualifications: Strong commitment to working in social justice, experience working with immigrant communities a plus Ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment; successfully manage multi-functional projects, priorities and timelines with minimal supervision; follow-through and attention to detail is essential Nonprofit experience and/or familiarity with advocacy work from the perspective of a non-profit advocacy group, or similar organization, is preferred Strong computer skills including ability to work with Microsoft Office Suite; solid knowledge and comfort with word processing, spreadsheets, mail merge and advanced functions Excellent abilities to build and maintain relationships Strong interpersonal and communications skills Excellent time and project management skills Skilled in dealing with confidential matters with tact, sensitivity, and discretion Minimum 2 years of HR experience, knowledge of California laws preferred B.A. degree preferred but experience will be considered with A.A.
