The American Liver Foundation (ALF) is the nation's leading non-profit organization promoting liver health and disease prevention. ALF provides research, education and advocacy for those affected by liver-related diseases. PRIMARY FUNCTION/PURPOSE : The Events Manager reports directly to the Executive Director of the Greater Los Angeles Division and will be responsible for fundraising, development and events work. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Events Manager will work to ensure the success of all the division’s events, educational and advocacy initiatives and to achieve its financial goals. The Events Manager will also participate in and manage the establishment of systems and protocols for the division’s fundraising events such as the Liver Life Walk/Flavors/Cuisine for a Cause, Challenge/and the Fashion show. Major Duties and Responsibilities : Overseeing all elements of fundraising and program activities in conjunction with the Executive Director. Identifying and recruiting corporate sponsors and building relationships with company representatives. Recruiting and servicing chefs, walk teams, volunteers and committees. Training and cultivating volunteers for all events.  Identifying target audiences and building appropriate marketing and recruitment strategies for participants and volunteers. Conducting and coordinating all logistical aspects of events including acquiring live and silent auction items. Implementing plans for assigned fundraising events. Adhering to ALF campaign standards. Coordinating promotional, marketing and media activities. Preparing and maintaining financial records and statistical reports. Monitoring and forecasting of each event/activity budget. Assisting in the development and implementation of other division activities including Ask the Experts Seminars, educational programs and advocacy opportunities. Additional duties including the daily operations of the Division as needed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Excellent planning, budgeting and organizational skills. Health Access seeks an experienced community, coalition, and/or political organizer to lead our Los Angeles/Southern California advocacy activities, from organizing coalition meetings, delegation visits with policymakers, press conferences, town halls and other events to recruiting individual and organizational support for our goals. This position would represent the organization with partners, policymakers, press and the public to advance our agenda to expand care and coverage for all Californians, implement and improve health reform, protect health care consumers from unfair practices or inflated costs by insurers or providers, win investments in our health care safety-net and public health, and encourage a healthier California.   Strong communication and motivational skills, a work ethic, and passion for health care policy and politics are essential. Candidates must be able to work within a team, have proven leadership ability and experience handling a lot of responsibility. Travel is required.   Specific responsibilities include: Develop, implement and monitor strategies to carry out advocacy campaigns, build a large coalition partner network to support a broader regional and statewide advocacy agenda. Coordinate regional health coalitions, including maintain relationships with key members and inform them of developments in Sacramento and Washington, DC. Organize press conferences, actions, and events to support statewide issue campaigns. Serve as a regional spokesperson for the organization, including giving presentations to groups, and testimony at public hearings. Be current with federal, state, and county policies regarding health care. Foster relationships with elected officials and key stakeholders. Build strategic partnerships & alliances among diverse groups & constituencies in the region and state. Formulate and execute strategy and tactics in political issue campaigns. Recruit new members and affiliates to the coalition. Identify and work with uninsured families, immigrants, seniors, and patients. Maintain and add individuals with health experiences to a health care consumer story bank. Develop grassroots leaders to be active on health care issues. Promote effective communication throughout the region by increasing regional presence in online social networks, sending email blasts, and responding to email and phone inquiries. Keep consistent records about meetings, events, contacts, and work schedule. Assist in research, fundraising, and other organizational operations.   Qualifications and Requirements: General familiarity with health policy issues, California state politics, and nonprofit advocacy required. A minimum of three years of relevant community or political organizing/advocacy experience required. Experience with social media, online organizing and content development a plus. Excellent speaking and writing, and analytical skills. Able to translate complex policy into clear and actionable language in person and on paper. Strong computer skills (MS Office environment).   Work Environment: This position may be the only Health Access staff member in the office and may be alone in the office at times. However, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud, as multiple telephone conversations and normal office equipment continue throughout the day. Under the direction of the Vice President, Development, the Development Writer is responsible for writing and submitting grant proposals, LOIs, and concept papers to support Aviva’s fundraising goals, along with establishing long-term relationships with foundations. He/she produces fundraising materials and mission-related materials for Aviva and is responsible for crafting engaging communication vehicles, inspiring donors with thoughtful, targeted pieces, and helping shape the organization’s voice. The Accountant is responsible for all segments of general accounting, financial reporting, is audit liaison for independent financial audit and works closely with the Executive Director for all areas of the agency’s business including contracts and insurance. The Accountant is also responsible for accurate and timely reporting for government contracts and for employee timekeeping. Reports to the Executive Director. RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Handles all accounting - financial records and journals, A/R and A/P, bank reconciliations, obtaining backup documents for the agency credit card, payroll reporting to ADP, sales tax quarterly returns, issuance of annual 1099’s and other government reporting as needed. Accountant is also responsible for preparation of the annual budget, and for maintaining and updating the Official Documents of the agency. 2. Oversee and monitor all contracts/guidelines to assure timely and accurate reporting. Work with individual staff members to assure their understanding as it relates to their contract responsibilities. 3. The Accountant is responsible for preparing reports for presentation to the Board of Directors Finance Committee and the Board at large. 4. Works with Executive Director, outside agents and brokers to secure and maintain liability insurance, D & O insurance, workers compensation coverage and employee benefit programs. 5. Assist with annual year-end audit with outside auditors; prepare reports and schedules as needed as well as assist with the year-end non-profit informational returns. 6. Provide financial information to support the Grant Writer. 7. Support the Executive Director and all other employees to fulfill the Agency Mission Statement for all that we serve. Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, the Planned Giving Officer is responsible for strategically managing, cultivating and soliciting a defined portfolio of planned giving prospects and donors.  The Planned Giving Officer will proactively participate in activities that specifically promote the engagement and expand the pipeline of new planned giving prospects to meet specific annual goals and objectives.                                                                                                     ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Strategically manage a portfolio of planned giving (Legacy Society) donor prospects through phone calls, written correspondence and personal appointments for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. Identify new Legacy Society prospects / leads via collaborative fundraising, data mining, planned giving newsletters (through Stelter Marketing), and direct marketing response. Personally follow up on existing and newly-identified prospects generated through various marketing channels and expressed interest by donors. Develop an annual plan for the Planned Giving program, including a strategic 12-month calendar for Legacy Society, direct marketing, and digital fundraising approaches. Direct all Planned Giving marketing efforts in collaboration with the Chief Advancement Officer and the Director of Communications. Collaborate with Major Gift Officers to cultivate and solicit key donors, maximizing their philanthropic potential. Close a specific number of planned gifts each year to meet annual goals and objectives. Capture, track and update donor interactions in donor management database. Continually deepen knowledge of planned giving, including tax law changes related to charitable giving. Prepare regular Planned Giving reports to communicate program performance. Work collaboratively internally and externally to set strategy for members of employee resource groups and others, and will focus on achieving three primary objectives: provide outstanding customer-service; proactively implement thoughtful, personalized, relationship-based stewardship plans; and connect the work of ERGs and other groups to the philanthropic goals of APLA Health.  This will be done by working with a very specific group of donors, supporters and corporate teams Implement activities that will acknowledge and thank identified supporters for their participation in innovative ways that reflect their unique relationship with APLA Health and lay the foundation for future giving. Curate personal, unique, and inspired experiences for donors and supporters, further deepening their attachments to APLA Health.
