Job Description

Position Objective:

To perform duties related to payroll and other financial matters


Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manage the internal payroll related to payables and contractual obligations
  • Create, update, and maintain salary budgets for the PETA Foundation and its supported organizations
  • Manage and maintain payroll systems for PETA and the PETA Foundation and act as a liaison for third-party vendors regarding updates, upgrades, and changes
  • Register tax accounts in new states and maintain existing jurisdictions
  • Manage 401k plans, including biweekly and annual reporting, reconciliation of forfeiture accounts, and acting as a liaison for third-party vendors regarding updates, upgrades, and changes
  • Perform monthly general-ledger reconciliations
  • Provide necessary reports for annual financial audits of the PETA Foundation and its supported organizations
  • Use discretion and knowledge of the accounting and payroll systems to create and distribute specific payroll reports and specific ledger-detail reports
  • Train new PETA and PETA Foundation staff members in payroll procedures
  • Post journal entries to the general ledger, including biweekly and end-of-month entries for payroll, correcting and adjusting entries
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor



  • Completion of college-level accounting coursework
  • Three years of industry- or public-accounting experience
  • Previous experience with Namely or other payroll systems
  • Proven understanding of the administration of 401(k) plans
  • Proven Microsoft knowledge
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and the ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and good organizational skills
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Proven effective verbal communication skills and demonstrated comfort with speaking in public
  • Ability to provide proof of a positive credit standing
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
