Job Description

The Associate Director, Event Programming will be part of the dynamic team that is responsible for helping ensure the success of all of the Milken Institute’s events by providing the highest quality of content.  He or she will help create compelling and engaging programming and facilitate the growth of a powerful global brand for the Institute. The successful candidate will bring creativity and engagement to bear, as well as a network of relationships, adding value to the Institute’s portfolio of connections with global financial, corporate, public policy, foundation and philanthropic leaders.

The Associate Director, Event Programming will:

  • Help raise the bar in terms of the quality and timeliness of the Institute’s events.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with influential external stakeholders, including business and academic leaders, politicians and administration officials, investors and philanthropists, and other global policy leaders and media moguls.
  • Propose topics and confirm panels, including the identification and recruitment of speakers for the annual Global Conference; manage participant relationships, from panel inception and preparation to execution, to ensure the success of the Global Conference program.
  • Identify experts and high-level speakers for regional events around the world beyond Global Conference, then find contacts for those individuals and build long-term relationships with them on behalf of the Institute.
  • Work with the Institute’s business development team to help identify and secure speakers and strategic partners for events, helping to ensure a superlative event experience for them.
  • Collaborate with the Institute’s communications team to create engaging marketing materials reflecting the content and objectives of Institute programming.
  • Work with colleagues to develop broader engagement strategies for our speakers to contribute content to the Institute’s publications, reports, and social media.
  • Build on the existing strategic vision of the Institute and bring new ideas and insight that will further the mission of the Institute.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years of experience in a similar role with an events-planning firm, policy-oriented think tank, global media company, financial institution, or professional services firm.
  • A strong background in programming intelligent, creative, and interesting content, whether as an event professional, journalist, or otherwise.
  • Experience that combines leadership roles with senior-level involvement in initiatives, events, and programs that help move public policy.
  • Strong relationships with numerous influential external stakeholders including business and academic leaders, politicians and administration officials, and other global policy leaders.

  • The ability to interact professionally with government officials, corporate leaders, dignitaries and other global policy leaders. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; an entrepreneurial attitude and can-do spirit.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • An in-depth understanding of current industry trends and global developments.
  • Outstanding organizational talents coupled with the ability to balance competing priorities.
