Job Description

The Program Assistant provides support to the Director as well as recreation and child care for program participants; including arranging and conducting on-site activities for children and adult residents a WTV. This included parenting and life-skill classes, tutoring, Holiday events and summer camps.


1. Assess youth and adult living at WTV to determine recreational needs and interest including parenting and life skills classes as well as tutoring, Holiday events and summer camps.

2)Plan and organize group activities and recreational opportunities for adults, youths and families.

3)supervise youth at-all-times during activities planned and adults during life skill class or other activities including any off-site activities.

4)Organize and supervise volunteers and teen council for all events; work with community partners for funding of activities and volunteer opportunities.

5)Responsible to plan, organize, obtain donors and volunteers for all major events such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and summer camp.

6)This is a full-time position that may require weekend hours.

7)Organize trainings for incoming volunteers, PTM, Scared Boundaries and work with Headquarters to obtain volunteer clearance.

8)Back-up Receptionist in answering telephone, Greeting clients and visitors and completing administrative tasks.

9)Work with Director on monthly billing to help manage expenditures within budget.

10)Maintain personal files, plan ,coordinate and implement all personal training required.

11)Maintain a positive and professional attitude always and respect the confidentiality of all clients and staff.

12)Perform other duties as assigned.


Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, Push, Pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone and smart TV. Ability to lift to 35lbs. Must get along with children.

1)College degree or minimum two year's experience working with youth and understand budgets.

2)Understand ans support the Mission of the Salvation Army.

3)TB test required

4)Criminal background check required.

5)Certification for Protect the Mission Required.

6) Must be able to work independently and as a team member.

7) Must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

8)Valid driver's License/MVR required.

9)Excellent problem solving, multi-tasking and organizational skills needed.


1) Must be respectful and have empathy for the cultural diversity of families and individuals served by WTV.

2) Must have advanced computer skills.

3)Administrative experience required.

4)Strong time management and organizational skills.

5) Ability to work well with others in sometime difficult situations.

6)Bilingual in Spanish a plus

7) Driving Test and clean MVR required.

8) Must pass Protect the Mission as will be working with children.

9)Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from residents, vendors, government officials and the public.
