The Mission
 
KIPP LA Public Schools is a non-profit organization that operates free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public charter schools serving students in South, Southeast, and East Los Angeles. KIPP LA’s mission is to teach the academic skills, foster the intellectual habits, and cultivate the character traits needed for our students to thrive in school, college, and life. KIPP LA currently operates 17 schools and serves approximately 7,200 students. Our team is expanding rapidly; over the next five years, we will more than double the number of students we serve.

The Opportunity

    • The Student Recruitment Operations Associate (known internally as the Regional Operations Associate), in collaboration with the Student Recruitment Regional Operations Manager, will have a critical role in supporting the design and implementation of an annual student recruitment and enrollment plan that aligns with KIPP LA’s student enrollment goals.
    • S/he will partner with School Business Operations Managers (BOMs) to ensure the effective execution of student recruitment, enrollment and retention. This includes, but is not limited to, new family engagement and canvassing, online application, lottery and waitlist system management, and data reporting. In addition, the role of the Student Recruitment Operations Associate will be to support the effective rollout of new initiatives and strategies to recruit and enroll new students in KIPP LA schools.
    • The Student Recruitment Operations Associate will report directly to the Student Recruitment Regional Operations Manager.

New Family Engagement & Canvassing

    • Project manage the rollout and ongoing management of a regional canvassing team; key responsibilities include managing a team of canvassers to recruit new-to-KIPP students, training canvassing skills, creating canvassing maps and scripts, scheduling and staffing community events, and providing on-the-ground canvassing support
    • Lead the coordination and staffing of region-wide student recruiting events to reach prospective families; attend events as needed to support schools in recruitment efforts
    • Partner with Advocacy & Community Engagement Team to cultivate partnerships with parents and community-based organizations for the purpose of student recruitment

Systems Management & Data Reporting

    • Manage the application, lottery and waitlist management software (SchoolMint); provide school-based operations teams with system training and support
    • Ensure schools are inputting, tracking, and analyzing data regarding student recruitment benchmarks and goals; report weekly updates on progress towards goals  
    • Leverage historical data and trends to inform practices for recruiting students and planning for new student retention; regular check-ins with schools to monitor progress

Student Recruitment & Enrollment Support

    • Manage the enrollment hotline and follow up with all online inquiries
    • Assist with the execution of lotteries Provide schools with tools, data and information to implement best practices and comply with authorizer and charter enrollment requirements
    • Support special projects and other tasks as instructed by the Student Recruitment Regional Operations Manager

The Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • 2-3+ years of student recruitment, community and/or grassroots organizing and project management experience
    • Required to be highly fluent in spoken and written Spanish
    • Effective teamwork orientation with the ability to communicate and build relationships with multiple constituencies, including school leaders and community organizations
    • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities
    • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills; experience using Excel and/or Google Sheets to analyze large amounts of data and perform quantitative analysis
    • Comfort with ambiguity and working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
    • Familiarity with communities within Los Angeles Unified School District, Compton Unified School District and/or San Diego Unified School District preferred
    • A demonstrated passion for improving K-12 public education
    • Available to work some weekends and evenings
    • Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation as travel between school sites in South and East Los Angeles and Compton will be required
