Job Description

KIPP LA Public Schools is a non-profit organization that operates free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public charter schools serving students in South, Southeast, and East Los Angeles. KIPP LA’s mission is to teach the academic skills, foster the intellectual habits, and cultivate the character traits needed for our students to thrive in school, college, and life. KIPP LA currently operates 17 schools and serves approximately 7,200 students. Our team is expanding rapidly; over the next five years, we will more than double the number of students we serve.

The Opportunity

    • The Human Resources Partner is a hands-on human resources expert and formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value added service to management and employees that reflect the organization’s objectives. Working closely with the Director of Human Capital and Human Resources Generalists, this position provides human resources support and communication to both management and team members in the areas of employee advocacy, policies and procedures, retention, training and internal investigations.
    • He/She educates and advises management and employees with regard to employment laws, HR policies and procedures and state and federal laws. Delivers high-quality decisions and counsel consistently and appropriately to management and team members to maintain a productive and positive work environment and achieve optimal performance.

Administration & Leadership

    • Supervise and mentor members of the Human Capital Team, lead internal projects, and conduct internal process improvements
    • Collaborate with Director of Human Capital and colleagues to ensure alignment of all human capital programs, policies, practices, and activities with KIPP LA’s  strategic direction
    • Develop and execute action plans to resolve issues that have emerged from trend spotting conducted within KIPP LA or across human capital
    • Engage in complex employee relations matters and bring matters to appropriate resolution
    • Support construction of human capital management practices and policy design
    • Manage large projects that solve problems or drive innovation and positively influence KIPP LA’s operations and culture
    • Implement and plan annual New Hire Orientation in conjunction with the Director
    • Plan year-end off-boarding cycle in conjunction with the Director
    • In partnership with other HR functional areas, execute strategies to ensure scalable and efficient processes for HRIS/ATS and other human capital technology systems and initiatives
    • Develop and identify current and future organizational needs/structure
    • Help KIPP LA regional departments and schools identify and correct inefficiencies, and provide consistent and streamlined processes, methodologies and practices
    • Construct and deliver training to team members on relevant human capital topics

Management & Communication

    • Establish weekly work plan to effectively meet all goals
    • Participate in developing team goals and priorities
    • Provide support and become a resource for all employees; Build and maintain healthy relationships with all employees
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a diverse, team-oriented environment
    • Strong knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations that guide supervisors to risk-appropriate management decisions
    • Demonstrated ability to coach supervising managers and leaders on best practice solutions and resolution of complex issues
    • Excellent writing, group facilitation, and project management skills
    • Demonstrated knowledge of organizational development principles and HR-related theories, models and trends
    • Ability to be flexible and willing to take on a variety of assignments

Policy, Procedure, Data Analysis & Compliance

    • Develop monthly communication/reporting for Director of Human Capital, Director of Talent Acquisition, school and regional leaders
    • Review and analyze data to provide strategic thinking and regional recommendations
    • Coordinate with our Data Team to meet all organizational, city, state, etc. reporting requirements

The Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree required
    • 5 to 10+ years of human resources experience
    • Working knowledge of all federal, state and local employment laws
    • Senior or Professional in Human Resources certification (PHR/SPHR) highly preferred
    • Experience managing teams to drive results
    • Proficient in Google Drive, Microsoft Office and HRIS HRB/Portal Administration
    • Entrepreneurial mindset, with the creativity and versatility to work productively in a fast-paced environment
    • Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce high-quality work in a dynamic environment
    • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships with stakeholders across functional and organizational lines
