Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for participating in the month end close, managing and analyzing the budgets of 15+ individual program funds, and 10+ special events. This position is an integral member of the Finance Business Services department and will assist in financial reporting. This position ensures that actuals vs. budgets of individual funds and special events are properly tracked and reported.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Month end closing, including preparing journal entries, and reconciling variances
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements and departmental budget vs. actual reports
  • Analyze, reconcile, and manage 15+ individual grants/funds; including working with Program Officers to set up budgets, provide timely financial updates, and prepare financial reports
  • Manage and reconcile 10+ special events budgets with marketing team
  • Participate in year-end audit, including preparing audit schedules and providing supporting documentation to auditors
  • Identify process improvement areas and prepare process documentation
  • Perform financial analysis, reconciliation and general ledger tasks as assigned
  • Support Director of Finance with ad hoc projects
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum 3 years accounting experience or 2 years’ public accounting experience
  • Solid understanding of GAAP
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including intermediate Excel, plus experience using an accounting software package
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Big picture thinker with creative and innovative approach to problem solving
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be very detail oriented, organized, and have the ability to multitask
  • Must be self-starter with desire to take ownership and accountability of projects
  • Must be able to work cross-functionally and collaborate
  • Desired (in addition to the Required criteria):
    • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Solomon
    • Previous fund accounting and non-profit experience
