Volunteer Resource Navigator (VRN) will serve at the table in waiting room of oncology-related department of facility to provide resource referrals. Volunteer will be given related ACS pamphlets, ACS Patient Referral Form to connect patients to ACS Services, and binder of community and hospital resources. Navigator can engage waiting patients in conversation and ask if need assistance or have any patient concerns. Volunteer may also be asked to assist hospital staff in other matters as needed or explained. We are also supplying volunteer recruitment information, especially Road to Recovery.
Position Requirements:Internship Experience Requirements: • Currently enrolled in an educational program in a discipline related to community/public health/social work. • Passion/Interest in cancer prevention/early detection, quality of life for cancer patients & survivors, as health equity and underserved populations • Ability to think critically and work independently with minimal supervision. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. • Excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills. All Interns Must meet the following requirements: •Full-time student, If you are an undergraduate student you have completed your freshman year of college; •Have a minimum of a B average (cumulative 3.0 on 4.0 scale); •Plan to continue their education in the following term/semester oNote: an internship assignment may coincide with the student’s last term/trimester, but student must disengage upon graduation. The following information must be submitted upon application: •Resume •Two references from academic/professional sources addressing the student’s credentials based on the internship’s skill requirements •Recent transcript attesting to their GPA and standing as a full-time student •Unpaid interns must also provide documentation of the participation in a bona-fide college intern program under which their ACS internship either qualifies them to receive course credit OR fulfills a graduation/coursework requirement.
