Job Description

Under the direction of the Center Manager, this person will be responsible for the overall monitoring and supervision of the children in the classroom. Plans, facilitates and implements a responsive approach to curriculum activities designed to promote social, physical and intellectual growth. Assess and develops individual and group activities to stimulate learning, according to each child’s development and learning approach. Responsible for the completion of all required educational records. Ensures care and supervision of children by maintaining a safe, clean and healthy learning environment. Must assure inclusion of children with Individual Educational Plans (IEPs). Encourage parents in the educational activities of the program by developing/enhancing their role as the main influence to their child’s development.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Encourage family involvement of the children in a Head Start program and support the development of relationships between children and their families.
  • Ensure the smooth coordination of all classroom activities and staff and student interrelationships.
  • Plan, supervise, and implement the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of St. Anne’s, the Head Start Performance Standards, and all EHS/HS contracts
  • Gear the program to the needs of individual children with concern for their interest, handicaps, special talents and individual style and pace of learning.
  • Help children become aware of their roles as integral members of a group.
  • With guidance from the Support Services department, ensure consistent implementation of short-term exclusion and admittance policies for children with identified health issues.
  • Responsible for classroom’s safe and healthy learning environment. Follow policies and procedures to open and close classrooms to meet St. Anne’s and all contract regulations and requirements.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of school readiness goals. Develop and implement lessons plans that meet St. Anne’s school readiness goals and all contract requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field.
  • Must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children..
  • Able to support the social and emotional development of children.
  • Able to relate well to both children and adults
