I. TITLE: Family Support Social Worker

II. QUALIFICATIONS:
• A Master's Degree from an accredited university in Social Work or Social Welfare, Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling, Child Psychology, Child Development, Counseling Psychology, or Social Psychology (if not MSW, ability to receive an exception to adoption regulations)
• Social work experience with children and families at a Master’s level meeting the qualifications in the Interim Licensing Standards
• Demonstrated working knowledge of Child Development, Family Systems, Diagnosis and Treatment, Adoption Issues
• Demonstrated organization and time management skills
• Excellent writing skills
• Ability to function in a team-oriented working environment
• Ability and experience to work in a multi-cultural environment
• Bilingual Spanish/English preferred

III. REPORTS TO: Foster Care/Adoption Coordinator or designee

IV. POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Foster Care/Adoption Family Support Social Worker has direct responsibility for the support and training of prospective and approved resource families. This responsibility includes, but may not be limited to: facilitating pre-approval training to prospective resource parents, encouraging prospective resource parents throughout the approval process, coordinate and facilitate regional support groups in-person and online, develop current and former resource parents to provide informal support to prospective and new resource parents, and support resource families through crisis as coordinated by assigned social worker. The position requires an untraditional work week of Tuesday through Saturday with available hours in the evening.

V. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Home Identification/Approval/Training
• Recruits, orients and assess prospective resource parents
• Evaluate and assess applications of prospective resource parents
• Facilitation of pre-approval, on-going training and resource parent support groups
• Identify and coach resource families to be speakers at information meetings and trainings, as well as develop them as co-facilitators
• Encourage families throughout the approval process
• Develop and facilitate online resources such as closed support groups

2. Support Resource Families
• Develop resource parent advisory committee
• Develop current and former resource parents to informally mentor and support other resource parents
• Reach out to and provide clinical support to families in crisis as coordinated with the assigned social worker
• Engage families while they are waiting for a child to join their family

3. Documentation
• Complete contact notes
• Ensure each individual signs in for trainings
• Complete documentation required for pre-assessments
• Provide meeting notes for advisory committees

4. Community
• Establishes/maintains effective relationships with the community, related agencies, agency staff and volunteers
• Develops and maintains effective working relationships with all external personnel/agencies
• Networks to develop/maintain high quality community profile
• Develops/maintains effective working relationships with all individuals and agencies impacting CB program

VI. GENERAL:
• Maintains confidentiality in matters of agency operations, personnel, and clients
• Maintains positive communications and relationships with all agency staff, clients and visitors
• Exercises good judgment in performance of duties and responsibilities
• Supports existing agency policies, principles and mission
• Keeps supervisor informed
• Participates in staff development, individual and group supervision consultations, and trainings
• Assists with daily office responsibilities as appropriate and other duties as assigned including providing coverage to social workers
