POSITION SUMMARY:  The IT Security Engineer leads the design, installation, and management of the security infrastructure and security procedures, serves as the functional lead for cybersecurity investigations and incident response, serves as the functional lead for the College’s business continuity plan, and serves as a mentor and key player in developing a student-run security practice.  The IT Security Engineer is responsible for performing application and infrastructure penetration tests and vulnerability scans, administering the College’s firewall, and leading the investigation and incident response activities.  This position works with a team in the Pomona College Information Technology Systems (ITS) department to ensure the security in place matches with the College’s risk tolerance, and report to the Deputy CIO, Enterprise Services.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.  Experience in higher education is strongly preferred. A minimum of 4 years supporting a variety of networking technologies and managing Cisco Next Generation Firewalls. Experience with at least one of the following Linux variants: Suse, Centos, or Redhat.  Experience supporting a VMware 6.x server environment, and supporting both MacOS and Windows OS computers.  Must have demonstrated experience applying software tools, computing technologies, and computational methods to research problems.  Strong abilities in critical analysis and creative problem solving are required.

 

REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday.  Holiday, weekend and evening work hours will be required to complete work during off-peak periods and in response to emergency situations.  Travel may be required.  Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.
