Sinai Temple – Los Angeles, California

The Director of Development will establish goals, create strategies, and successfully engages in various fundraising programs to drive philanthropy opportunities that reflect the mission of Sinai Temple. This position serves as part of Sinai Temple’s senior administrative team and will report to the Executive Director and Vice President of Development.

Core Responsibilities:

• Identify and secure major gifts in support of the organization’s various needs
• Organize and lead all fundraising activities for the synagogue, including Annual Giving Appeal and Annual Gala
• Discover and apply for Foundational and Government Grant opportunities
• Define and implement capital project campaigns, long-term programming gifts, planned -giving and endowment opportunities
• Personal outreach and contact with all major donors
• Work directly with the Senior Rabbi and other members of the clergy to identify prospective donors and cultivate individual relationships
• Create and maintain a well-designed and documented prospect portfolio to be used for solicitation

Qualifications:

• Proven track record of successful donor solicitation
• A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required; an advanced degree is preferred
• Progressively increasing responsibility in the development sphere, preferably within a Jewish non-profit environment
• Demonstrated effectiveness in managing multiple, on-going, long-term projects
• Demonstrated experience with creating annual giving, capital or other fundraising campaigns and their execution
• Experience working with Blackbaud & Raiser’s Edge Database Software
• Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communication and interpersonal engagement

In 1906, Sinai Temple was established as the first Conservative congregation in Southern California. The current campus at Wilshire and Beverly Glen Boulevards was established in 1956. A building expansion, completed in 1998, resulted in a vastly improved school building which houses our Sinai Akiba Academy Day School and Douglas Family Early Childhood Center. Throughout the twentieth century and into this new millennium, Sinai Temple continues to flourish as a leader of modern Conservative Jewish life and thought. Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $125,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
