Green Dot operates 27 public schools in historically disadvantaged communities in Los Angeles, Tennessee and Washington. We seek to prove that it is possible to close the access and opportunity gap that exists between low-income students and their more affluent peers.

OPPORTUNITY
This position participates in work that is an integral part of Green Dot Public Schools strategic advancement, and reports to the Director of Communications. The incumbent will help coordinate department strategies and efforts, seeking to shape and guide public positioning with regard to the broader priorities of Green Dot Public Schools. The Communications Strategy Manager (CSM) will support the development, implementation and daily operations of key initiatives, including guiding our content strategy (coverage, distribution), and supporting thought leadership, crisis communications, and campaign-aligned strategic planning.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership
> Supervise, train, and develop content staff
> Liaise with school leaders to iteratively improve services and systems for Communications.
> Project management for special Communications initiatives, both at schools as well as network wide
> Tracking performance and developing regular reports for colleagues and eventual external audiences
> Strategize and develop new strategic projects to achieve org-wide objectives
> Evaluate and improve internal communications efforts, ensuring operational efficiency and alignment with other priorities
> Other tasks as assigned

Content & Narrative Development
> Shepherd and evaluate our content/narrative strategy and quality, supporting network-wide capacity for messaging consistency
> Create and evaluate written stories and pieces for digital distribution (e.g. blog/school feeds, medium, syndication, etc.), ensuring consistent publishing schedules
> Design and improve systematic and sustainable copywriting services aligned to organizational priorities
> Create content for and engage contributors in thought leadership for our owned media channels
> Inform and support list-building and new audience development and acquisition efforts
> Create copy for materials and correspondence, including, but not limited to memos, letters, emails, solicitations, brochures, etc
> Improve copy and proofread marketing material for development, advocacy and communications projects

Press Relations
> Support in crisis communications, both in proactive training and rapid response
> Draft and revise press releases/statements, LTEs, editorials and talking points as appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS
> You have a Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, or a related field
> You have 2-4 years of experience in communications or journalism (supervisory experience is preferred)
> You have excellent writing and editing skills (Spanish and English fluency is preferred)
> You have a keen understanding of media, marketing, and digital communications strategies
> You are able to work well under pressure on time-sensitive issues, shift priorities and meet deadlines
> You are interested in and have knowledge of current events and media trends
> You are familiar with education reform and the public education sector in general
> You have an outstanding phone manner, as well as superior interpersonal and organizational skills
> You are dependable, humble, have a sense of humor and a rock-solid commitment to Green Dot’s mission and the communities we serve
> You will need to pass a TB test and background check at time of offer

COMPENSATION
The annual salary range for this position is $67,000 - $84,000 and considers the individual’s relevant experience and skill-set.
