Green Dot Public Schools is a non-profit network of public charter schools helping to transform the public education system so that ALL students graduate prepared for college, leadership, and life. Our schools are founded on an unwavering belief in the potential of all students, and there are four key elements to our school model that help us unlock the inherent potential in every student we serve: quality teaching and instruction, a college-going culture, a focus on fostering leadership and life skills, and a focus on eliminating barriers to learning. Part of what differentiates Green Dot is our intense focus on truly serving ALL students; our collaboration with reform-minded unions; and our work focused on large-scale turnarounds of schools formerly run by the districts; and our ability to take on the toughest challenges with the same public funding received by traditional district schools but accomplishing very different results. Green Dot California’s results are undeniable. Nine of our high schools have been ranked among the top schools in the country. We have three California Distinguished schools and 3 California Gold Ribbon schools, and several of our schools have been recipients of the CORE Districts’ Academic Growth Awards, which honor schools having the greatest impact on student achievement. Additionally, Green Dot’s first turnaround, Alain LeRoy Locke College Preparatory Academy, was named Charter School of the Year by the California Charter Schools Association in 2019.

 OPPORTUNITY

Green Dot is looking to grow its impact in the education reform movement by expanding its service to other regions across the country. This will extend our work as a leading National change agent while providing an opportunity to make a difference in thousands of additional students who are being underserved. 

The Finance Manager, working closely with the Director of Finance, has the opportunity to shape and make possible the achievement of our long-term vision. To realize the envisioned impact on reform, we must successfully create and execute our financial strategy as well as manage our day-to-day finances. The Finance Manager will help create a pathway to sustainability by working with the regional leadership and improve processes and tools to produce actionable, timely and accurate financial statements and analysis. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

> Manage, coach and develop three Financial Analysts; driving team outcomes, project workplans, and professional development

> Develop a deep understanding of the organizations funding models, state and federal education funding sources, key expense drivers, and optimization opportunities

> With the Director of Finance, oversee financial strategy, planning, and analysis, including

*Preparing annual budgets for schools, home office departments, and special programs, and shepherding through management and board approvals

*Preparing quarterly forecasts and presenting to management and the board

* Modeling strategic opportunities, such as new schools, facility financing, regional expansion, and grant applications

* Standard and ad hoc analysis and reporting of financial and operational aspects of the organization for management and the Board of Directors

> Work closely with the regional leadership to reach financial sustainability by understanding key variances, identifying long term risks and developing strategies to improve financial outcome  

> Responsible for managing and implementing a wide variety of strategic planning projects by working with multiple departments aimed at improving organizational efficiency and seeking creative solutions to some of the organization’s most challenging issues

> Assess current financial and accounting processes and identify areas for improvement, including streamlined processes that reduce time and errors from manual data entry and allow more time for value-adding analysis

> Oversee development of detailed and interactive multiyear projection models consisting of Income Statements, Balance Sheets and Cash Flows on an individual school as well as organization-wide level, used to build annual budgets and forecasts

> Develop deep understanding of Finance Team’s service and work with school administrators and business managers to ensure the highest quality of service is achieved

Key Outcomes (Key Performance Indicator, KPI)

> Budget Accuracy - All non-discretionary revenue and expense line items within each cost center is accurate to within a predetermined % variance (e.g. 1%) to the year-end financials

> Forecast Accuracy - All cost center year end forecast is accurate to within a predetermined % variance (e.g. 1%) to the year-end financials

> Financial Dashboard Timeliness - All stakeholders receive accurate and timely financial dashboard by a predetermined date (e.g. within 6 days after close)

> Board Packet Timeliness - All budget committee packets (budget, quarterly decks) are ready for CFO/CEO review by a predetermined date (e.g. 3 weeks prior to budget committee meeting)

> Team Development - Hire, develop and promote a team of 100% “A” players

QUALIFICATIONS

> MBA or equivalent experience preferred

> Experience with public K-12 school financing is a plus

> You have a minimum of 5-8 years in finance and accounting, including oversight of financial planning and analysis

> You are experienced in managing projects and teams

> You are able to drive strategic decisions with a mix of financial and operational data analysis

> You have an excellent ability to develop and manage financial models (VBA skills a plus) that provide actionable data and can be maintained and improved by staff

> You are creative and thoughtful about how to manage financial behavior

> You are able to maintain positive relations with colleagues at all levels—including senior leadership, central office staff and school-site administrators and staff

> You are able to simultaneously manage multiple projects while maintaining a firm grasp of individual project details

> You have a high level of personal responsibility and a growth mindset, striving for continuous improvement with an A+ work ethic

> You are dependable, humble, have a sense of humor and a rock-solid commitment to Green Dot’s mission and the communities we serve

> You will need to pass a TB test and background check at time of offer

COMPENSATION
The annual salary for this position will fall within a range of $92,000 - $102,000, commensurate with experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits plan including (but not limited to) medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement options.
