Job Description

Team Rubicon (TR) is seeking a  Crisis Innovation Lead, to join our hardworking, fun-loving and forward-thinking Field Ops team. A successful candidate will have a relentless focus on the beneficiaries of our capabilities and will consistently strive to find the most effective way to reduce or alleviate human suffering and accelerate return to normalcy often in complex or untested environments.  

In this role, you will solve hard problems in novel environments with the support of a growing team of disaster and humanitarian professionals. An entrepreneurial, innovative leader with the ability to establish instant rapport in multi-cultural settings is our ideal candidate. These qualities among others will be exercised and tested daily while you apply TR’s capabilities in otherwise untested environments or identify new capabilities to help people on their worst day.

Rapid delivery of new capabilities  

  • Lead TR mission delivery in complex, limited resource environments that require outside-the-box solutions. 
  • This role will work with the Capabilities team to develop new capabilities in often austere and quickly evolving environments, support refinement and assess long term commitment 

Delivery of established capabilities in previously untested contexts 

  • Lead TR’s delivery of established capabilities in contexts where TR has not operated before or is delivering a capability where modification to the capability package is necessary for success 

Cadre Development 

  • Build a team of on-call volunteers and other support capable of delivering on the unique scope and requirements of this role 

Non-operational time  

  • This role will work closely with the Capabilities team to research, design and develop new capabilities during non-operational time 
  • This is intended to ensure alignment with standard methodology for developing new capability packages even in situations requiring rapid development  


  • This role will represent Team Rubicon to foreign governments, intergovernmental agencies, and the broader I/NGO community 
  • Develop a firm understanding, and apply legal requirements pertaining to I/NGOs working in host countries 

Experience and Background: 

  • 3-5 years field experience with INGO, UN or USAID in humanitarian aid, or international development sector, work in complex emergencies preferred 
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience in International Affairs, Political Science, Emergency Management; Masters Degree a plus 
  • Proven track record of building, and managing diverse, multi-cultural teams 
  • Experience in program design, proposal development, and execution in resource-constrained environments, direct application in complex emergencies preferred 
  • Ability to travel within 24 hours with no return ticket  
  • Understanding/application of SPHERE and other best practices in a field setting 
  • Proficiency in Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, or French a plus  
  • At least 50% Travel 
  • Ability to work at our Los Angeles, CA, National Headquarters Office and/or National Operations Center, Grand Prairie, Texas
