Job Description

Baby2Baby provides children living in poverty, ages 0-12 years, with diapers, clothing and all the basic necessities that every child deserves. By distributing new and gently used items to non-profit partner organizations including homeless and domestic violence shelters, Head Start programs and other social service agencies, Baby2Baby will serve over 180,000 children in Los Angeles this year.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Co-Presidents and Deputy Director, the Controller is responsible for defining the process and implementation of the infrastructure needed to support Baby2Baby’s growth over the next 5-10 years. This individual will oversee all of the organization’s finances, strategic planning and financial forecasting as well as handle all general accounting, grant tracking, internal audits, external tax and audit preparation. The Controller will partner with administrative leadership to handle organizational and program budgets, cost allocations, administering and maintaining payroll service, payroll records, wage/salary/benefit appropriation and documenting/reporting of cash and bank records. This position involves general analysis to determine cash flow trends, explanations of variances, etc.

This position is full-time (Monday-Friday) at the Baby2Baby warehouse located in Culver City, and the work is performed in an open-office setting.


Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Ensures accurate accounting activities for both cash and in-kind transactions, and excellent internal controls in processes that generate accounting transactions.
  • Prepares monthly and annual financial reporting materials and metrics for Baby2Baby’s staff, directors and board of directors.
  • Oversees budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash activities throughout the year.
  • Coordinates audit and other corporate regulatory compliance activities.
  • Prepares reports and other information as needed for prospective and existing funders as well as the board of directors.

Operations Management

  • Serves as a partner to Baby2Baby’s Directors and Co-Presidents on the organization’s financial, budgeting and administrative processes with an eye to continuously developing and improving systems.
  • Manages payroll for Baby2Baby’s staff and benefits.
  • Oversees contract management for vendor and donor relationships.

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Management or Finance.
  • Business school degree, a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience, including managing the finance and operations of a $10+ million organization budget.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting in the nonprofit sector.
  • Proficient in legal, audit, compliance and resource development.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies, and guiding investment in people and systems.
  • Flexible, self-starter able to multi-task while also being highly detail-oriented.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to Baby2Baby’s mission.
