Job Description

MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger seeks a Major Gifts Officer to cultivate and secure significant donations to the organization. This position is an integral part of the development team, working to determine effective strategies for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of major gift prospects. This individual will manage a portfolio of 125-150 major gift prospects, including individual donors, corporations, and institutions; and manage donors with a capacity of $10,000 or more.  This position will report to the Director of Development.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Collaborates and develops strategies with the Director of Development and members of the Development team. 

·       Works closely with program staff to gain in-depth knowledge on MAZON’s programs and initiatives.

·       Cultivates and solicits donors for major gifts of $10,000 or more. 

·       Listens for opportunities for gifts of assets or other non-cash gifts, such as planned gifts. 

·       Stewards major donors and provides opportunities for donors to receive recognition and increase future giving opportunities. 

·       Understands and complies with all MAZON gift-related policies and procedures and ensures ethical compliance, as defined by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.  

·       Set and meet fundraising objectives with the Director of Development, evaluating results and developing corrective strategies as needed.

·       Develop multi-year fundraising strategies and goals.

·       Other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge/skills:

·       Fundraising within the Jewish community and/or anti-hunger related causes and issues.

·       Ability to use existing technology to achieve desired results. Salesforce or other database and prospecting software  experience a plus.

·       Successful experience in managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors.

·       Knowledge of current trends in charitable giving, particularly in the areas of capital campaigns, major gifts and planned giving. Working knowledge of charitable gift planning.

·       Successful experience in asking for and closing major gifts of $10,000 or more and building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents such as major donors and corporations.

·       Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to positively influence, inspire, motivate, and persuade. 

·       Experience researching potential donors.

·       Ability to design, implement, and direct fundraising initiatives, including individualized cultivation, solicitation and recognition strategies.

·       Ability to communicate a compelling and inspired vision or sense of core purpose.

·       Ability to make good decisions based on analysis, wisdom, experience and judgment.

•     Ability to maintain confidentiality.

 

Communications/interpersonal contacts:

·       Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to persuasively convey the mission of MAZON to diverse groups including donors, corporate executives, board members and others who are important to the organization’s overall prosperity.

·       Ability to work with and communicate with a wide range of people—the public, influential donors, prospects and others.

·       Ability to develop relationships, and educate and inform prospective and existing donors about appropriate giving vehicles.

·       Ability to build constructive and effective relationships with development team.

Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3-5 years development work experience. Major gifts fundraising experience required.

·       Fundraising within the Jewish community and/or anti-hunger related causes and issues.

·       Experience, coursework, or other training in current trends in charitable giving, particularly in the areas of major gifts and planned giving. 

·       Experience in managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors.

·       Experience in asking for and closing major gifts of $10,000 or more. 

·       Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents such as major donors and corporations.

·       Experience in developing a pipeline of prospects to cultivate for major gifts.

·       Candidates must be willing to travel and be able to work evenings and weekends.
