Job Description

Summary Statement The Business Development, Marketing and Events Manager, champions the OPERS brand, building awareness and promoting understanding of the brand within OPERS, across the enterprise and to key target audiences. S/he is responsible for shaping and managing varied and multi-faceted brand marketing efforts, programs, and initiatives working with strategic partners on the campus and across University. His/her efforts ensure the success of OPERS. 

Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. 

Uses advanced marketing concepts to create, develop, implement and manage comprehensive promotional marketing and sales strategies / plans, including short and long-range strategic planning. Responsibilities include comprehensive promotion and advertising and / or market research activities. Projects and / or programs are typically complex and require a high degree of technical marketing expertise. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.   Qualifications / Competencies Advanced knowledge of the organization's product lines and services. 

Advanced knowledge of the organization, including its achievements, mission, goals, vision, objectives and infrastructure. 

Advanced knowledge of marketing principles, concepts, techniques and applications relevant to the field of promotion and advertising. 

Advanced skills in developing, designing and implementing creative promotional and advertising strategies. 

Advanced written, visual, interpersonal communication and political acumen skills. 
Advanced analytical and research skills. 

Advanced knowledge of applicable organizational policies and state and federal laws pertaining to marketing and advertising issues and concerns and other related policies or laws. 

Skill in mentoring less experienced staff. 

Ability to effectively supervise a diverse staff. 

Two years of successful experience in facility operations, student activities, student development, programming or event management on a University campus. 

Demonstrated excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to independently manage a variety of projects with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities, to organize a continuous flow of work in a timely manner and meet mandatory deadlines. 

Ability to create new and original events and programs in order to expand offerings and meet changing community needs. 

In-depth understanding and past experience in marketing and the sponsorship industry 

Knowledge of special events programming and the ability to plan, organize, supervise, and manage events while performing multiple task simultaneously to achieve Department goals and standards.   Preferred Qualifications / Competencies Experience using Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. 

Experience supervising and training student employees in facility operations. 

A minimum of one year experience in building management or facility operations for a recreation center.   Special Conditions of Employment Selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check. 

Minimum two years paid experience in community/event programming & management. 

Working conditions require the employee to work in an office space, outside, or indoors at various facilities locations. 

Ability to lift heavy weights up to 50lbs with or without accommodations. 

Must possess a valid license to drive in the state of California. 

Ability to work a flexible and irregular work schedule that includes day, night and weekend hours as needed. 

Ability to be on-call. 

Will be required to complete Title IX (Sexual Harassment) training every two years. 

Will be required to complete FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) training within one month of hire. 

Will be required to complete PCI training within one month of hire. 

Will be required to complete the Basic Cash Handling (16 minute video & 10 question quiz) training and pass the quiz with a score of 80% or greater within 5 days of hire.
