Job Description

OPPORTUNITY
The Senior Accountant plays a key role in the organization. He or she will be the expert in charter school funding and be fully in charge of preparing charter school financial statements. He or she will have a thorough knowledge of GAAP for nonprofit organizations and will train and advise school site on financial accounting matters. The Senior Accountant will develop improved tools, processes and approaches to ensure that work is done in the most effective and efficient manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES
> Prepare bank entries and journal entries to support a cluster of schools including, but not limited to, weekly school site cash deposits, EFT receipts and revenue accruals
> Prepare invoices for accounts receivable, and see through collection
> Guarantee timely and accurate month-end close by meeting daily, weekly and monthly deadlines
> Reconcile all items on the balance sheet on a monthly basis
> Review transaction reports and financial statements and discuss with accounting team members and finance
> Assist the Compliance team in reviewing the classification and treatment of revenues and expenses related to special programs, to ensure all grant funds are utilized
> Help schools prepare for audit visits, ensuring appropriate controls are in place so that all dollars are used to advance student outcomes
> Provide answers and support to school and business managers so they can make informed school site decisions
> Build relationships with school site and regional office staff
> Work with schools to ensure compliance with department policies and procedures
> Be a part of the team and culture by participating in school related events and visits
> Contribute to the development of a strong Finance & Accounting department that reflects operational best practices
> Special projects and other duties as assigned

Key Performance Indicators/Goals
> Meet deadlines for closing the books
> Number of journal entries made after the books are closed
> Percent of checklist competed on-time each month
> General Ledger Workbook updated each month
> Issued solved as a percent of issues identified each month

QUALIFICATIONS
> A Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting or related field
> A minimum of 3 to 5 years of general accounting experience
> Experience in education, nonprofits, or government accounting is a plus
> A CPA, CMA or MBA is a plus
> Knowledge and/or interest in charter school operations is a plus
> You have a solid foundation and knowledge of GAAP
> You have experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
> You have excellent organization, prioritization, oral and written communication skills
> You are detail-oriented, efficient and accurate
> You have the flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment
> You are able to work collaboratively as part of a team
> You are able to build and/or strengthen relationships with external stakeholders
> You are familiar with and have a willingness to learn about and utilize technology to improve communication, collaboration, and productivity
> You have a high level of personal responsibility and drive towards ambitious goals
> You have a strong sense of integrity, ethics, and drive to achieve and grow
> You are dependable, humble, have a sense of humor and a rock-solid commitment to Green Dot’s mission and the communities we serve
> You have a valid CA driver’s license
> You will need to pass a TB test and background check at time of offer

COMPENSATION
The annual salary for this position will not exceed $85,000 and will be based on experience.
