Planned Parenthood Los Angeles is seeking an experienced Training Specialist (Non-Licensed Staff) with excellent communication and customer service skills to work in our Downtown Los Angeles Headquarters.  Under the supervision of the Director of Training, this role is responsible for developing and delivering staff training, with a focus on non-licensed health center staff training.  This will include new hire orientation and training on knowledge, skills, and procedures for new and current health center staff and Call Center.  Provide customized trainings per Agency needs. Over one hundred years ago, Planned Parenthood was founded on the idea that everyone should have the information and care they need to live strong, healthy lives and fulfill their dreams. Our Ideal Candidate will have the following qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience required
    • Experience providing education, training, supervision, and/or mentoring to other staff required
    • At least four (4) years of customer service experience in a health center required
    • At least four (4) years of experience with Practice Management and Electronic Health Record user interfaces preferred
    • One (1) year experience in a Planned Parenthood health center preferred
    • Comfort talking about sensitive topics, including sexuality, abortion, contraception, and STIs.
    • Strong group facilitation and public speaking skills
    • Passionate about PPLA’s mission and supporting staff in providing excellent patient care
    • Willing to work some evenings and weekends and to work at/travel between all health centers
    • Valid driver’s license and a reliable and flexible means of transportation is required

About the position:

    • Conduct classroom orientation and training for new health center and call center staff with regard to entry level skills for PPLA patient services, including, but not limited to: family planning, pregnancy testing and options counseling, sexually transmitted infections, abortion, mandatory reporting, patient-centered communication, billing/insurance, and lab skills
    • Develop and provide training to health center staff when new clinical processes are implemented or changes to current services or protocols are introduced (may be in conjunction with lead Medical Assistants, other Training Department team members, other clinical staff and clinic leadership team)
    • Conduct E.H.R. classroom training and orientation, including, but not limited to: logging into the computer and setting user preferences, appointment scheduling, patient check-in, documentation requirements for basic and complex appointment types
    • Ensure completion of training requirements and coordinate processing of documentation, in collaboration with Departmental support staff
    • Develop and/or facilitate training content for all-staff training events (such as Pride & Development Days)
    • Maintain knowledge about reproductive health, health education and counseling, community resources, agency protocol and referral procedures, and all Planned Parenthood programs
    • Develop and revise training materials, including job aids, curricula, lesson plans, facilitator guides, and participant handouts
    • Regularly update training lesson plans, curricula, and other learning materials to ensure content is accurate and up-to-date
    • Maintain and provide regular reports to supervisor(s) on training activities
    • Support implementation and upgrades to E.H.R. systems and related software
    • Serve as a liaison for health center staff and establish regular systems of communication with health center staff, including Center Managers, Supervisors, and Call Center to review training needs
    • Provide on-site training support to mentors and new health center staff, as needed
    • Serve as a role model for health center staff by exemplifying PPLA workplace values and service standards
    • Participate in Agency committee work as appropriate
    • Stay abreast of best practices for staff training
