Availability:  Immediately Application Deadline:   Continuous until position is filled   Position Description Break the Cycle seeks a staff attorney who shares our goal of centering our work in young people and their empowerment, leadership, and vision. The staff attorney will provide holistic legal services to youth, ages 12-24, who are survivors of relationship violence, sexual assault and stalking. Specifically, this position will assist youth in restraining orders, family law custody and support, Title IX, and criminal case advocacy matters.  The attorney will also conduct outreach and training for young people, service providers, attorneys, and other adults who work with youth.    About Break the Cycle Break the Cycle is a culturally affirming, national non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire and support young people to build healthy relationships and create a culture without abuse. We aspire to deepen our programs and catalyze social change so that all young people can move through the world with dignity and respect.   We are looking for an individual who: ·        is committed to and values diverse cultural perspectives; ·        understands systems of oppression and how they intersect with and impact our clients and their communities; ·        recognizes the importance of the voices of youth/clients in all our work; ·        is committed to young people and social change; and ·        is comfortable working in a small non-profit environment that values mentoring and coaching while promoting autonomy.   Principal Duties and Responsibilities ·        Represent survivors in civil restraining order hearings, and family law custody and support matters; ·        Represent survivors in Title IX matters related to dating violence, sexual assault and stalking at secondary schools and universities; ·        Engage in criminal case advocacy, including accompanying survivors to criminal hearings when appropriate, keeping them informed of their cases, and advocating for their desired outcomes; ·        Connect clients to non-legal supportive services as needed; ·        Conduct onsite intake at specified locations; ·        Engage in legal research and writing, and maintain a working knowledge of developments in relevant law; ·        Provide training to a variety of young people and adult service providers on the laws that impact young survivors of relationship violence, sexual assault and stalking; ·        Assist with legal services program grant reporting, data tracking and evaluation; and ·        Other duties as assigned.   Qualifications ·        Active membership in the California State Bar. ·        1-2 years litigation/direct legal services experience, preferably with youth or survivors of interpersonal violence.
