We seek a Mission Investing Associate to be a key team member who provides operational support for lending and investment activities, portfolio management, and daily operations. This dedicated operational support person will serve as the financing back office of Mission Investing. A staff of 125 conducts the day-to-day operations and a Board of Trustees oversees the work of the Foundation. Mission Investing The Foundation has been making mission investments since 1980, making it one of the earliest such programs to be created in the country. Mission Investing (MI) seeks opportunities where loans or equity investments are the best tool to further the Foundation’s programmatic goals and support our grantmaking. Our experience shows that mission investments can often be catalytic, enabling nonprofit organizations and mission-driven for-profit companies to seize time-sensitive opportunities, to grow new ideas and business models, and to help attract private sources of capital to our work. Mission Investing is structured as a separate $180M pool of funds, that is carved out from the overall Foundation endowment, and is overseen and managed by the MI team. The Foundation’s MI program has grown to be one of the most active of its kind in the country, making between $20-50M in loans and investments each year, and is considered a leader within the rapidly evolving impact investing industry. Mission Investing Associate The Mission Investing Associate serves as a key team member who provides support for daily operations in lending and investment activities, and in portfolio management. We are looking for a dedicated operational support person who will serve as the financing back office portion of Mission Investing. Responsibilities Work closely with and coordinate with Foundation programs, finance, legal, IT staff, and with borrowers and investees, to perform back office operations of MI Responsible for program and investment timelines, documentation, and loan/investment files to ensure timeliness and completeness for both new and existing loans and investments Responsible for the quality and accuracy of the information systems for the MI portfolio via a CRM database, electronic investee portal, document archive on SharePoint, legal documents, and other required hardcopy files, and related PRI information in cross-Foundation information systems. Take the lead in recommending and working with IT to implement information systems upgrades as needed to improve MI processes Generate a variety of financial reporting and analyses for use by MI team, finance staff, and others as requested/assigned Coordinate legal document execution and loan/investment closings, including handling of confidential and sensitive information. Review MI investee reports, and track compliance with financing milestones and legal loan/investment covenants Respond to internal and external investment inquiries, and communicate effectively and collegially with borrowers/investees, co-investors, and other program and impact investment partners Manage supporting systems for MI including budget tracking, invoice and contract processing, grant processing, deadlines, and internal reporting Generate short announcements related to MI for internal and external use Be an active and contributing member of the MI and the Foundation Maintain a positive attitude and build effective working relationships with all including Foundation staff, consultants, borrowers/investees, and constituencies in the impact investing field Assist as needed with logistics of meetings, events, and conference calls As assigned, take on or initiate projects to enhance effective operations Skills and Requirements Work experience or demonstrated interest related to financial administration Work experience or familiarity with database/information systems, with both an aptitude and interest for playing a lead role in managing and upgrading these systems to optimize the quality and efficiency of MI. Direct experience managing and/or refining systems for financing programs a plus Analytical skills and aptitude for quantitative analysis, either generally or related to financial transactions Ability and interest in taking ownership for quality and integrity of MI systems. Detail-oriented with excellent judgment skills, and with strong organizational and project management skills Commitment to accuracy and high-quality work products, responsiveness, and strong work ethic, including a positive can-do attitude to work with humor and grace under pressure Excellent team collaboration and personal communications skills a must, to work flexibly and interactively within the MI team and across the Foundation. Effective written and oral communications skills a must. Strong computer skills and a willingness to learn new software and database tools Interest in impact investing field, and/or in the Foundation’s program areas a plus, but not required Able to work overtime occasionally when needed Physical Requirements Candidate must have the ability to communicate via voice telephone, read and understand written communication, and generate written communication manually and using a computer. Candidate must also be able to work at a desk for long periods of time (2-3 hours), lift and move documents and supplies (not to exceed 20 lbs.), and bend to file or retrieve documents. Education and Work Experience Related BA degree or equivalent education and work experience along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, ideally with 3 years related to financial administration Benefits and Compensation The Foundation offers an excellent benefits package and a salary that is commensurate with related work experience.
