Inner City Law Center (ICLC) is a nonprofit law firm on Skid Row in Downtown Los Angeles. We are looking for extraordinary people to help us end homelessness in Los Angeles. Founded on the fundamental principle that every person should always be treated with dignity and respect, ICLC fights for justice for low-income tenants, working-poor families, people who are disabled or homeless, people living with HIV/AIDS, and homeless veterans. Over the next six months, we will add about a dozen talented and diverse lawyers, paralegals, and other staff to our team so that we can serve more clients.

ICLC, seeks a talented Document Specialist for a temporary full-time assignment. The position is for a 6-month period, with the possibility of the time period being extended. The Document Specialist will provide support to ICLC’s legal teams by maintaining and improving ICLC’s case management systems in order to support the provision of high quality and professionally responsible legal work, along with tracking deliverables and outcomes critical to obtaining and retaining funding. The Document Specialist’s first and foremost responsibility is assuring the timely opening and closing of digital files for clients and cases in ICLC’s case management system. Additional critical responsibilities include cataloguing closed paper case files and managing offsite storage of those file and other organizational records. The Specialist will work with the Director of Legal Services and others to implement and maintain a system of regular data quality checks to assure accuracy of information in the digital case management system. The Specialist will be responsible for editing intake and closing forms, performing data exports, and producing reports for team and grant reporting. Additional responsibilities include being a point person for ICLC’s case management system, and coordinating related trainings and meetings with the system’s consultant. The Specialist will oversee ICLC’s room reservation system, coordinate monthly staff meetings, manage the Director of Legal Services’ schedule and perform other duties supporting the work of the Director of Legal Services and legal teams. Strong computer and data-entry skills, including Excel, internet, Outlook and Word. Knowledge of Time Matters or similar case management system. Demonstrated ability to organize large amounts of data, and able to establish schedules and performance indicators. Ability to work well with all levels of personnel. Detail-oriented, organized, self- motivated and able to meet deadlines. Type a minimum of 50 wpm. Education:  Bachelor’s degree or four years’ relevant experience. ICLC is searching for a talented, full-time Attorney with prior SSI, SSDI or other disability benefits experience for a ground-breaking new project that will help homeless individuals with disabilities gain access to critical income-support benefits. This Project will provide technical assistance, training, and other support on disability benefits applications for homeless individuals throughout Los Angeles County.   This is a unique opportunity for an attorney to join an exciting new project that will positively impact thousands of individuals’ lives in Los Angeles. The Attorney will focus on providing technical assistance to our partner agencies and their case managers on SSI, SSDI and CAPI (Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants) applications. The Attorney will also lead trainings for case managers and other advocates on SSI, SSDI and CAPI and review completed applications.   The Attorney will work as part of a team and will share team responsibilities related to the Project, such as identifying systematic problems within the SSI/SSDI or CAPI application process and developing strategies to resolve them. This will likely include working directly with staff and leadership at the Social Security Administration and Department of Public Social Services in Los Angeles County. The Attorney may also represent clients in administrative hearings to challenge incorrect denials of SSI, SSDI or CAPI benefits. The Attorney may also participate in other projects related to improving these systems and may perform other duties as needed. The Attorney may also work closely with pro bono attorneys volunteering on this project.   Hiring Criteria: Commitment to ICLC’s mission and values. Excellent oral and written communication skills. ICLC seeks a talented full-time Staff Attorney to help expand our tenant defense work by holistically addressing a broad range of issues that impact housing stability. A key component of the Staff Attorney position is robust eviction defense representation, including trial work. The Staff Attorney will also perform legal work in a wide-array of areas, including maximizing income through government benefits and increased employability; limited immigration assistance; record expungement; citation defense; credit improvement; debt reduction; and preserving and obtaining housing subsidies. The Staff Attorney will partner closely with traditional homeless services providers and will bring a whatever-it-takes approach to ending and preventing homelessness for our clients. ICLC seeks an Office Manager to support the Director of Administration with all aspects of office operations, including: ·        Planning and implementing office systems to ensure office efficiency. ·        Maintaining a clean, attractive and professional work environment. ·        Managing the maintenance and repair of office space and equipment. ·        Coordinating employee and guest parking and office access. ·        Managing vendor relations and purchasing office supplies and equipment. ·        Providing orientations to new staff members and volunteers. ·        Managing a Help-Desk system for all technology-related issues. ·        Providing user support for light IT issues, including setting-up user accounts, desktop and laptop computers, printers, routers, firewalls, phone software, and security updates. ·        Coordinating with our IT consultants on heavier IT issues. ·        Tracking and maintaining accurate records of computers and other technology related assets. ·        Serving as backup for all other administrative staff, including receptionist\screeners. ·        Assisting other ICLC team members as needed for special projects and events. ·        Interacting professionally with a customer service attitude with all members of the ICLC team.
