Under the supervision and direction of the Managing Director, Homelessness & Strategic Initiatives, the Public Affairs Manager will be responsible for critical aspects of Home For Good, the initiative to create and sustain an end to homelessness in LA County. The Public Affairs Manager will activate and sustain the involvement of key stakeholders in our multi-sector network: philanthropic partners, homeless service providers, public agencies, advocates, and business leaders. The Public Affairs Manager will cultivate alignment and forward movement through regular and strategic communications as well as other forms of strategic engagement.   We invite candidates to join with our dynamic, innovative team of implementers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Develop and implement communications and engagement strategies for Home For Good’s key stakeholders. Home For Good is a collective effort of over 100 community based providers and features an annual walk of over 10,000 members of the public. In any work of collective impact, regular and strategic communications are the lifeblood of greater impact and the Manager will be entrusted to cultivate and grow this profoundly important strategy. Monitor policy decisions, new funding opportunities, and activities of Home For Good projects, curating and distributing communications with key stakeholder segments to maintain alignment, provide support, and drive momentum on at least a monthly basis Develop new forms and forums for service providers, community based agencies, and philanthropic partners to offer solutions and identify challenges for policy action and advocacy Manage creation of tools (website, collateral) and opportunities for Home For Good partners to engage and interact with one another other in meaningful ways (virtually & in-person) Develop and strengthen relationships with leading service providers, philanthropic partners, advocacy organizations, public agency staff, and business leaders and seek early input on strategies and objectives Manage and monitor budgets of public affairs work and solicit additional resources as necessary. Manage a set of special advisors and contractors to provide specialized supports and production of short-term campaigns, communications, and collateral. Work collaboratively with Development and Marketing teams to articulate the value of our mission work and support the development of meaningful impact engagement opportunities for donors and the public Capture and internally communicate the goals and ongoing progress of United Way’s housing and homeless initiatives across the Community Impact team and cross-functionally to maximum knowledge transference Communicate and collaborate across United Way’s departments to align impact efforts with Development, Finance, Marketing, and Operations to strengthen organizational relationships and customer service Support implementation of the Community Impact Team’s annual goals and the organization’s strategic plan Participate in cross-departmental and organizational planning and volunteer efforts as needed Support the Grants Initiatives team in liaising with Home For Good provider relationships, working with the United Way Engagement team to identify and connect with leading providers as necessary Other duties and responsibilities as assigned QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional work experience required Minimum 3 years work experience required; experience in homeless services, policy, strategic communications, journalism, public/external affairs, or community organizing/ engagement work preferred Working knowledge of the root causes of and solutions to homelessness preferred Strong interpersonal skills and the dynamic ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders, including United Way team members, board members, external partners, and donors Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all organizational levels within a diverse environment Must be able to exercise initiative, independent good judgment, flexibility, discretion, and solid decision making Must be able to utilize creative strategies to engage stakeholders and maintain effective working relationship with key stakeholders Should possess strong written, and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to persuade small and large groups alike Must be able to successfully manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, adjust to changing circumstances, and demonstrate confidence working with diverse stakeholders, including nonprofit, public sector, corporate, faith-based, and philanthropic stakeholders Excellent prioritization, project management, and critical thinking skills with a strong sense of focus, organization, follow up, and attention to detail Proactive and self-motivated to execute on responsibilities Positive, can-do attitude with ability to hit the ground running Must thrive under pressure and be able to accept constructive feedback Willing to work flexible hours as needed to support department priorities and events Strong, engaging, and persuasive meeting/event facilitation skills preferred Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint) is essential; experience using Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft CRM, or comparable programs is a plus United we fight.
