POSITION SUMMARY: The Financial Analyst III will assist in providing direct support in preparing fiscal year budgets, mid-year forecasts, as well as monthly management reporting and analysis. This position will provide a full range of financial support including creating and/or updating financial and operational analysis, performing financial activities in support of various functions, e.g., budgeting, auditing, and financial planning, which includes extracting financial data from various accounting and information systems to perform basic to moderately complex statistical and financial analysis, and for preparing reports. This position reports to the Assistant Controller, Financial Planning & Analysis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Financial Analyst III performs the following essential duties and responsibilities:
1. Assist with the preparation and management of the college budget.
Review initial budget data as well as subsequent adjustments as the budget is being developed and finalized.
Perform analysis on budget performance for all funds, investigate variances, provide justifications, and communicate to management as needed.
Reconcile complex accounts, identify and resolve complex issues that span multiple areas, and work with the budget staff to process corrections to ensure accuracy of data.
Assist in working with academic and staff departments to eliminate shadow accounting systems, and in monitoring their budgets and maintaining accuracy of expenses.
Process budget amendments and perform budget reconciliations as needed.
Review and approve supplier invoices, purchase requisitions, and reimbursements to ensure adherence to donor restrictions on all transactions pertaining to the use of gift funds.
2. Assist with performing complex finance functions and activities related to forecasting.
Assist in developing financial data for performance analysis, forecasting, and solving operational challenges.
Assist with constructing and assembling data for budgeting and decision-making, developing conclusions, and presenting high-level summary of recommendations.
Assist in providing specialized analytical and quantitative analysis to synthesize findings and provide management with actionable recommendations.
Interpret data to evaluate and determine past financial performance.
Assist with the development and maintenance of financial dashboards, and querying large complex data sets from various systems.
Assist with the review and analysis of financial data for cost centers to use for performance analysis.
Design ad hoc and standardized financial analysis reports.
3. Assist with maintaining the budget application that integrates with the financial system of record.
Assist academic and staff departments with the budget application for the development of their annual operating budgets.
Review the budget data entered into the budget system as well as subsequent adjustments as the budget is being developed and finalized.
Assist with entering central budgets for various sources of income and expense budgets, including Joint Programs and Formula Funding.
Assist with managing the gift reports, which include the departmental gifts balances for use in preparing the operating budget.
Assist in facilitating various components of the budget process, including the student wage budget, special request, and equipment and alteration.
In coordination with Human Resources, assist in updating the budgetary position management system for accurately predicting personnel expenditures.
4. Coordinate special projects/tasks and provide assistance as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in the area of accounting, business administration, finance, or a related field from an accredited College or University, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. MBA or Master's degree in relevant field preferred. A minimum of 7 years of experience with increasing responsibility in the areas of budgeting, finance, or accounting is required, with 5 years of experience in a leadership capacity, preferably from a college or university.
REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.
ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: Regular / full-time / exempt. Starting salary: $7,416 per month.
