Human Resources: HR Generalist

Job Description:

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking a Payroll Administrator to join our Human Resources Department.  Primary responsibilities include administering the Museum's payroll function including processing semi-­monthly payroll, producing reports and metrics analysis, maintaining the department budget and assisting with HR-related duties.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Accurately process semi­monthly payroll for Foundation employees, including reviewing timesheets, processing manual checks, garnishments, and employee time off tracking.

  • Generates required annual reporting, such as the W-2, in an accurate and timely manner. 

  • Submits timesheets for County employees to Shared Services for processing. 

  • Processes contributions to employee 403(b) accounts and coordinates MassMutual documents in a timely manner. Prepares reports and documents for the annual 403b audit with an external auditing agency.

  • Communicates professionally and effectively with employees.

  • Performs required payroll audits including regular audits of payroll taxes, employee 403(b) contributions, time off accruals, payroll systems and changes to employee status.

  • Assists with the development, maintenance and as appropriate upgrading of payroll system.

  • Develops ad hoc financial and operation reporting as needed, including compensation analysis, headcount, turnover and Return-on-Investment (ROI). 

  • Tracks and maintains department budget.

  • Participates in HR events, projects, or complete HR-related tasks that support Museum employees and the department as requested.

Job Requirements:

This position has the following requirements:

  • Associate Degree or higher with a concentration in Accounting and/or Business Administration.  CPP preferred but not required.

  • Three to four years of payroll processing experience required. Two years of accounting experience preferred.

  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now.

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations.

  • Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material.

 

Additional position information:

Salary is commensurate with experience. This is a non-exempt position.
