Job Description:

Position Summary

This position is responsible for raising budget relieving funds via Foundations and Government Agencies in support of the Natural History Family of Museums (NHM, Tar Pits, and William S. Hart). Primary responsibilities include setting strategy with the executive leadership of the Museum and the identification, positioning, solicitation, and stewardship of foundation and government prospects.

 

Responsibilities include:

  1. Develop strong relationships with curators and senior staff in order to understand the Museum's current and developing programs for use in fundraising appeals.

  2. Meet an annual revenue goal for general operating support of the Museum via Foundation and Government sources.

  3. Actively lead fulfillment and systematic stewardship of all Foundation and Government relationships including tracking of recognition, scheduling “touches” with foundation contacts including invitations to events, credit acknowledgements, website acknowledgements.

  4. Provide support to Trustees, key volunteers and support groups to execute the Museum's annual giving strategies.

  5. In conjunction with Manager, Grants and Foundation, supervise the renewal calendar and reporting requirements for all Foundation and Government donors as required.

  6. Review produced materials for proper recognition placement and garner approvals from foundation contacts in a timely manner.

  7. Identify and solicit new sources of Foundation and Government funding via general research and through the review of the Museum's member base.

  8. Network and develop strong relationships with key decision makers within Foundations and Government sources, on behalf of the Museum, or stewards relationships with these prospects and donors by connecting them with the Museum's executive leadership.

Job Requirements:

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in related field

  2. Five years of experience in progressively more responsible management and supervisory roles for a comparable program or function.

  3. An entrepreneurial approach to prospect identification and cultivation and excellent communications and negotiation skills are essential. Outstanding writing skills are also needed.

  4. Preferred candidates will have grant writing experience with a proven track record of quantifiable fundraising success.

  1. Strategic thinker; translates organizational vision to individual goals; monitors implementation of goals and adapts to changes in circumstance.

  2. Ability to assess and solve complex problems across departments.

  3. Demonstrated ability to work with others both internally and externally.

  4. Excellence in oral and written communication.

  5. Must possess initiative, strong work ethic, good judgement and professionalism.

  6. Experience developing programs budgets and monitoring their implementation.

  7. Prioritizes work independently to meet deadlines without reminders.

Salary is commensurate with experience plus excellent benefits offered. This is a full time, regular, exempt position.
